Purpose of job:. To provide operational HR guidance to a business area in the British Council and to ensure the provision of effective HR services and support to the business. This role has a strong focus on managing a large ER case work. Context and environment: (e.g. dept description, region description, organogram). This role will support one of the following businesses. English. Networks. Arts, Education and Society. Resources. It is envisaged that the post holder will support different areas over time, in order to develop a broader understanding of the business. NB: The designation of individuals to a specific area will be carried out as a second stage, once appointments have been made to the roles. Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:. Policy Advice. To encourage managers and staff to make direct reference to available guidance (e.g. Essential HR) and to provide professional advice for managers on the application of HR policy and process (including case assessment and referral as appropriate). Casework Management To provide support for ongoing day to day management of performance, conduct, sickness absence cases, including disciplinary, grievance, absence, exit issues This could involve case reviews, management action plans, and/or agreed HR interventions. To provide coaching as appropriate, to improve line manager capability in handling staff issues. Resourcing To provide support for job design and evaluation. To encourage managers to make direct reference to recruitment policy and processes when recruiting for staff, providing additional advice and support as appropriate. Performance Management and Development To provide ongoing support for line managers in performance management and development of their staff. Change management and reorganisations To provide support to HRBP to agreed action plan. Essential:. Implementation of HR policy. Handling casework (e.g. disciplinary, grievance, sickness). Job evaluation. Ability to coach and advise managers on HR and people management issues. Managing large volumes of ER case work. CIPD Qualified. Relationship Building for Influence (Level 3). Professional Confidence (Level 2). Customer Service Orientation (Level 3). Teamworking (Level 3). Understanding of employee relations (including employment law). Understanding of principles of management. Knowledge of job evaluation systems.
